100 crore demand for minister post, one arrested from Delhi

Mumbai : A team of the crime branch arrested an accused from Delhi on Tuesday for demanding Rs 100 crore from a Pune MLA on the pretext of giving him a ministerial post in the newly formed government of the state. This is the fifth arrest in this case. The accused had approached many MLAs for ministerial posts. Investigation has revealed that many refused after the initial meeting because the amount was more.

Nandkishore Prasad alias N. K. The name of the arrested accused is Singh. He is a resident of Bhagwati Garden, Uttam Nagar, Delhi. A crime branch team had gone to Delhi to arrest him. But he was not present there. Finally, on July 25, the police got information that the accused was at Hotel Aditya International in Bokaro, Jharkhand. Accordingly, a raid was conducted and the accused was arrested. Police have seized two mobiles from Singh and suspicious WhatsApp chats have been found in the mobiles. N.K. Singh was in touch with Jafar Usmani, the arrested accused in this case. He was brought to Mumbai on transit remand. Ajay Umapati Dubey, the lawyer of the accused, said that since the accused did not take any amount, there is no crime against them. Meanwhile, the police suspect the involvement of more accused in this case.

Singh had asked MLAs to get ministerial posts through his acquaintances with high-ranking persons in Delhi. After this Riaz Sheikh contacted some MLAs and met them. After preliminary talks, Riaz sent a list of interested MLAs to his associates Yogesh Kulkarni and Sagar Vikas Sangwai. Then these two sent the list to Jafar. Jaffer forwarded that list to N.K. Sent to Singh. After that, on the request of Singh, accused Jafar asked Sangwai to take the fixed amount from the MLA. The accused had demanded 100 crores from many people. Many MLAs refused as the amount was more. At the same time, the private secretary of the MLA from Pune called the accused Riyaz to meet him at the Oberoi Hotel. There plainclothes police detained Riyaz and in this case a case of cheating was registered and Riyaz was arrested.
