Uttarakhand’s women and child welfare minister Rekha Arya has come into the limelight after a controversial order given to officials. Arya has ordered the officials to take selfies while ‘watering’ the Shivlinga on July 26, i.e. the concluding day of Kavad Yatra, in order to eliminate gender inequality in the state. After this order, Rekha Arya is being heavily criticized by the opposition party.
Activities to promote ‘Beti Bachao’ scheme
Rekha Arya has instructed the officers to send their selfies to the email id of the department. Also, selfies have been asked to be shared on WhatsApp of the concerned officials. Arya said that this activity will be implemented to promote the Central Government’s ‘Beti Bachao’ scheme under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign.

Officers, employees, Anganwadi workers and volunteers from other departments will participate in this yatra. The Yatra will conclude with Jal Abhishek to Lord Shankar at the 1300 year old Virbhadra Temple in Rishikesh by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Rekha Arya herself will participate in this Kavad Yatra. Arya has shared a video about this on Twitter.
