Advance voter registration opportunity for youth above 17 years

New Delhi : The Investment Commission is making efforts to increase the participation of youth in elections. Accordingly, the commission has taken a major decision and youth who have completed 17 years can register in the voter list in advance. But only those who have completed 18 years of age will get the right to vote.

Previously, youths who turned 18 on or before January 1 were eligible to register their names in the electoral roll, while youths who turned 18 on or before January 1 had to wait a year to register as voters. After the change in the election law, youth who have completed 18 years of age on 1st January, 1st April, 1st July and 1st October can register as voters.

According to a letter released by the Election Commission on Thursday, the Commission under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and Election Commissioner Anupachandra Pandey has suggested to technically enable the electoral system in the states for the youth to apply as voters in advance.

“Henceforth, the voter list will be updated every three months and the eligible youth will be registered as voters in the next three months of that year,” it has been mentioned in the Election Commission’s letter.
