New Delhi : Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi was questioned for three hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the third day on Wednesday in connection with the alleged financial misappropriation of the National Herald. It is being said that Sonia’s ‘ED’ investigation has been completed as she has not been called again for questioning. Congress leaders-workers protested at Vijay Chowk adjacent to Parliament House for the third day in a row while the investigation of Sonia was going on at the ‘ED’ office.

The Delhi Police detained the Congress protestors on the pretext that curfew was in force. This included Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, Manish Tiwari and other MPs from both houses. The workers gathered at the Congress headquarters were also detained. Protesting MP Jyotimani’s clothes were torn during the police custody. Congress leaders accused the police of forcibly detaining many activists. Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh alleged that the Congress protesters were detained by the police even though they were protesting peacefully.

Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, the rebel leaders of the ‘G-23’ group, who have not participated in the Congress agitation so far, extended their support to Sonia Gandhi by holding a press conference at the Congress headquarters on Wednesday. The tradition of not attacking women and the sick was followed in war. Azad said that considering Sonia Gandhi’s age and health, the ED should stop calling her for questioning. Anand Sharma said that the central government should avoid using investigative agencies as weapons. Rahul Gandhi He was also interrogated by ‘ED’ for five consecutive days. Now Sonia was called for questioning on the third day as well. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot alleged that ‘ED’ has created terror in the country.

Demonstrations on the premises of Parliament

Congress and opposition parties have sent a letter to President Draupadi Murmu complaining that investigation agencies are being misused in the country and the central government is not ready to discuss important issues like inflation, GST etc. Four Congress MPs have been suspended in the Lok Sabha and they staged a sit-in protest at the entrance number-1 of the Parliament House. 19 Rajya Sabha MPs were suspended on Tuesday. They also staged a dharna near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament premises on Wednesday. The suspended MPs have decided to hold a chain protest for 50 consecutive hours.

A total of 24 MPs suspended

Aam Aadmi Party MP in Rajya Sabha Sanjay Singh was also suspended on Wednesday. Deputy Speaker Harivansh said that action was taken against Singh as he was causing chaos in the hall. A total of 24 MPs including four Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha and 20 MPs in the Rajya Sabha have been suspended so far in the monsoon session of Parliament. The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day after 2 pm due to the ruckus of opposition MPs.
