Chowdhury's offensive use of words caused an uproar; Sonia Gandhi-Smriti Irani feud; Lok Sabha adjourned due to commotion by BJP members

New Delhi : Congress group leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary’s offensive words against the President led to a ruckus in Parliament on Thursday. Union Minister Smriti Irani, who was very aggressive against Adhir Ranjan, and Congress President and MP Sonia Gandhi had a fight in the House. NCP MP Supriya Sule and other MPs had to mediate to resolve the tension created by the angry verbal exchange between them!

Adhir Ranjan Choudhary used the term ‘Nationalist’ about President Draupadi Murmu. Its strong impact was seen on Thursday as soon as the work of the Lok Sabha began. Union Minister Smriti Irani along with BJP members from the ruling benches took an aggressive stand against Adhir Ranjan and demanded an apology from the House and the President. In the Lok Sabha, Irani was angry and verbally attacked Adhir Ranjan as well as Sonia Gandhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House after the ruckus of BJP members continued for several minutes.

After the adjournment of the House, Sonia Gandhi went to the ruling party benches and tried to interact with BJP MP Rama Devi. Adhir Ranjan has apologized. Then, why is my name being taken’, Sonia asked Ramadevi. BJP members were announcing Sonia’s apology. While talking between Sonia and Rama Devi, Smriti Irani approached Sonia. He tried to tell Sonia that ‘I have taken your name and talk to me’. On that, ‘I am not talking to you. Don’t talk to me’, Sonia replied angrily. So Irani angrily asked Sonia ‘how can you talk to me in such words’. Seeing the verbal argument between Sonia and Smriti Irani, Supriya Sule, Mahua Moitra and other MPs took Sonia aside. Sonia was told that ‘we will go out without speaking in the auditorium’. After that, Sonia Gandhi left the hall. When asked about the apology, Sonia said, ‘Adhir Ranjan has apologised’. After the ruckus, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 4 pm and then for the rest of the day.

Modi-Irani should apologize to Sonia – Congress

BJP members tried to push Sonia, shout at her and physically harm her. Congress MP Geeta Koda claimed that Sonia Gandhi would also have been injured. Congress has demanded that Prime Minister Modi and Irani apologize to Sonia. Sonia was surrounded by BJP MPs in the House and like a pack of wolves, they attacked the 75-year-old senior woman. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra tweeted that Sonia was interacting with another senior woman (presiding officer). Union Minister Smriti Irani’s behavior in the Lok Sabha was highly offensive and insulting. But, will Speaker Sajjad understand them? Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the BJP, raising questions as to whether the rules are only for the opposition. The scenes seen in the Lok Sabha are unfortunate. Shocked to hear unnecessary sloganeering against Sonia Gandhi after the adjournment of the House. It is the responsibility of the members to behave properly in the House. NCP MP Supriya Sule said that the dignity of the House should be maintained.

Iranian, Sitharaman’s attacks

Sonia Gandhi has encouraged Congress MPs to insult the woman who holds the country’s highest constitutional post. Union Minister Smriti Irani verbally attacked Sonia as anti-tribal, anti-Dalit and anti-women in the Lok Sabha. While criticizing Andhir Ranjan, BJP also targeted Sonia. Even though Sonia herself is a woman, she allowed her party leader to make such offensive remarks. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman demanded that Sonia Gandhi come before the nation and apologize for insulting the President.

Apologize to the President – Adhir Ranjan

I will apologize to the President. I have asked them for time for that. But I will not apologize to the hypocritical BJP. I am bengali and can’t speak fluent hindi. I mispronounced the word only once. I did not intend to insult the President. I said it. As soon as I realized I had made a mistake, I sought out media representatives and tried to explain. But by then they had left, said Adhir Ranjan. While criticizing the central government at Vijay Chowk, Adhir Ranjan had referred to her as the “nation’s wife”.
