Four political prisoners executed in Myanmar

Bangkok : Four people, including a former National League for Democracy member of the legislature, a pro-democracy activist and two accused in violence that erupted after the military seized power last year, were executed, the Myanmar government said on Monday.

This is the first time in 50 years that the government here has given such death penalty. This information was given in the government-owned Daily Mirror newspaper. There was a demand from all over the world that these four political prisoners should be pardoned. It also included the United Nations and Cambodia. Cambodia holds the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. All four were accused of aiding and abetting the killings by terrorists. The exact date of execution of this death sentence has not been given. Meanwhile, Human Rights Minister Aung Myo Min of The National Unity Government, which was formed outside Myanmar after the military seized power, said the four who were executed had not participated in any violence. He claimed that they have been hanged to spread terror among the people.
