New Delhi : As many as 1 thousand 59 tigers have died in India since 2012. Madhya Pradesh, known as the ‘Tiger State’, recorded the highest number of deaths.
According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), 75 tigers died this year. Last year recorded the highest number of tiger deaths at 127 between 2012 and 2022. According to government statistics, 106 tigers died in 2020, 96 in 2019, 101 in 2018, 117 in 2017, 121 in 2016, 82 in 2015, 78 in 2014, 68 in 2013 and 88 in 2012.
done Madhya Pradesh, which has six tiger reserves, saw the highest death toll of 270 tigers during this period. Maharashtra has recorded 183 deaths, Karnataka 150, Uttarakhand 96, Assam 72, Tamil Nadu 66, Uttar Pradesh 56 and Kerala 55.
Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh recorded 25, 17, 13, 11 and 11 tiger deaths respectively.
42 tigers killed in Maharashtra in one and a half years
68 tigers have died in Madhya Pradesh in the last one and a half years. In Maharashtra, 42 tigers died during this period. According to statistics, 193 tigers were poached from 2012 to 2020. So this number is not available from January 2021 onwards.
