New Delhi : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also questioned Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the ‘National Herald’ case on Tuesday. While Sonia was being interrogated at the ‘ED’ office, the Congress staged a sit-in protest at Vijay Chowk adjacent to Parliament House. During this demonstration of power, former president of Congress Rahul Gandhi Along with him, senior party leaders, MPs and workers were detained by the police and released in the evening
Congress leaders, MPs from both the houses of Parliament and workers staged a sit-in protest on Tuesday morning at Vijay Chowk on Rajpath in security sensitive areas like Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, Sansad Bhavan. Along with supporting Sonia Gandhi against the ED inquiry, the Congress leaders staged protests against the central government, alleging that the issues of fuel price hike, inflation, GST, unemployment were not being discussed in Parliament. He intended to march on Rashtrapati Bhavan. So they were detained by the police. Like Vijay Chowk, after hundreds of workers gathered at the Congress headquarters protested, they too were detained by the police. Clashes broke out between activists and police at many places
Rahul Gandhi also participated in the Congress agitation by bringing Sonia Gandhi to the ‘ED’ office. After arresting all the leaders, Rahul Gandhi alone was sitting on the street in Vijay Chowk. There was a police cordon around them. After about 30-35 minutes, the police decided to take Rahul Gandhi into custody.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Congress Group in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, Sachin Pilot, Manish Tiwari along with 50 Congress MPs from Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha and Rahul Gandhi were taken to Kingsway Camp Police Station. There, he held a ‘discussion session’ and discussed many topics from country’s security to inflation. Meanwhile, the Congress claimed that history was repeating itself by tweeting a picture comparing Rahul’s Thiya agitation with that of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
General Secretary Ajay Maken alleged that Congress workers were not even allowed to go to Rajghat to protest. On this, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra criticized that Congress’s ‘Satyagraha’ is a pure play and Congress has no more issues.
On July 21, Sonia was interrogated by the ED for two and a half hours in the ‘National Herald’ case. Sonia was interrogated for six hours on Tuesday as well. He has been called for questioning today, Wednesday as well. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi was interrogated by ‘ED’ for about 50 hours for five days in this case.
