PTI, Thiruvananthapuram: A 22-year-old man who recently returned to Kerala from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is suspected to have died of monkeypox a day ago and the cause of death will be investigated, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said on Sunday.
The report of this patient’s pharyngeal fluid test is pending. The youth had no other illness or health problem, he said. The person returned here from the UAE on July 21, but the investigation was also on as to why there was a delay in admitting him to the hospital, he said. She said that while this particular virus of monkeypox was not as deadly and fast-spreading as the coronavirus and had a comparatively low death rate, the cause of death of the seemingly healthy young man was being investigated. The young man died at Khasji Hospital in Thrissur on Saturday.
