Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the Lok Sabha and BJP There was a big controversy when the leader Smriti Irani came face to face. This time NCP MP Supriya Sule and other women MPs mediated and settled the dispute. But this created a tense atmosphere in the hall for some time. Controversial statement made by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary regarding President Draupadi Murmu led to this controversy.
According to sources, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury called Draupadi Murmu as ‘nation’s wife’ and BJP MPs protested slogans in the Lok Sabha. Even after the House was adjourned at 12 o’clock, the BJP MPs were shouting slogans demanding Sonia Gandhi’s resignation.
Amid the commotion, Sonia Gandhi approached BJP leader Ramadevi and said that Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary had apologised. “Why is my name being taken?”, he asked.
During the conversation between Sonia Gandhi and Ramadevi, Smriti Irani intervened and said that she, not him, had taken the name. On this, Sonia Gandhi told him ‘don’t talk to me’. Then a verbal confrontation started between the two. The argument was going on for about two to three minutes.
After this, NCP MP Supriya Sule, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra, BJP’s Prahlad Joshi and Arjun Meghwal intervened. Congress MPs Geeta Kora and Jyotsna Mahant have accused Smriti Irani and some male BJP MPs of misbehaving with Sonia Gandhi.
On the other hand, BJP’s women MPs are likely to bring a privilege motion against the Congress president. According to the information given by high-ranking sources of BJP, the demand of Sonia Gandhi to apologize for the statement of Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary will continue.
