West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday in connection with the teacher recruitment scam. After the arrest by ED, Parth Chatterjee called Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee four times. But the phone was never picked up.
As a matter of procedure, when a person is arrested, the person can call a family member, relative or friend and give the information. While the ED was conducting the arrest process, Partha Chatterjee said that he wanted to call Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and inform about the arrest.
After this, Partha Chatterjee made four calls at 2.31, 2.33, 3.37 and 9.35 in the morning. But even once there was no answer from the front.
Why was Parth Chatterjee arrested?
Partha Chatterjee has been arrested by the ED in the teacher recruitment scam case and the court sent him to ED custody for two days. Chatterjee, a senior Trinamool Congress leader, was produced in the Bankshal court after his arrest. As the special court of ED was closed on Saturday, he was produced in this court. Before his arrest, Chatterjee was interrogated for about 26 hours at his residence.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the recruitment of Group C and D employees as per the recommendations of the West Bengal School Service Commission as well as the recruitment of teachers in government-sponsored, aided schools on the directions of the Calcutta High Court. The money transactions in this misappropriation are being tracked by the ED. The ED raided the houses of around twelve people in this regard on Friday. It includes two ministers. Sources in ED said that cash worth around Rs 20 crore was seized in these raids.
