Guwahati : The state of Assam has become a hub for jihadi activities. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that five activities of terrorist organization Ansarul Islam in Bangladesh have come to light in the last few months.
Six Bangladeshi nationals associated with Ansarul Islam have arrived in Assam and have started imparting jihadi education to the youth. One of these six people was recently arrested and his first terrorist act came to light.
It is very alarming that Muslim youths are being instigated in private madrassas by foreign imams. The Chief Minister demanded action against these private madrassas. Jihadist activities are very different from terrorist or extremist activities. The Chief Minister said that Jihadi activities are carried out initially through active participation in promoting Islamic fundamentalism and eventually through participation in subversive activities.
Himmat Biswa also informed that the Bangladeshi citizens who entered Assam illegally in 2016-17 had started training camps at various places during the Corona pandemic.
