Congress members shouting slogans with Sonia in Lok Sabha; Alleged misuse of central investigative agencies

New Delhi : Alleging that central investigative agencies are being misused against opposition leaders, Congress MPs along with party president Sonia Gandhi staged a protest in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday in front of the Lok Sabha Speaker.

As soon as the work of Lok Sabha started, members of Congress and ‘DMK’ came and stood in the open space of the House. They raised slogans like ‘ED-Modi down’ and ‘Narendra Modi answer’. MPs from NCP, Trinamool Congress also participated in sloganeering; But these MPs were supporting the Congress protests from their seats. The House was adjourned in the first ten minutes till 12 o’clock as the uproar of the opposition parties did not stop. Then the House was adjourned again at half past twelve till 2 pm. After the proceedings of the House began, the Congress MPs insisted that group leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary be allowed to raise the issue in the House. After Presiding Officer Rajendra Aggarwal did not allow Adhir Ranjan to speak, the Congress MPs resumed their sloganeering. Amidst the uproar, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran requested senior Congress leaders like Shashi Tharoor and Karti Chidambaram to come to the booth in front of the Lok Sabha Speaker. Seeing this, Sonia Gandhi got up and went to the well herself and joined the sloganeering of the opposition MPs. He also asked his party MPs like Karti Chidambaram etc to participate.

The Lok Sabha continued to be uproarious even in the afternoon session due to the raids on the premises of the Congress mouthpiece ‘National Herald’ newspaper, the ‘ED’ investigation of the opposition leaders due to the alleged case of money laundering. Hence the House was adjourned till 4 o’clock. Opposition MPs raised slogans against the government during the debate on the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Opposition leaders and senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Dipendra Singh Hooda, Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, AAP’s Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha had given notices under Article 267 and demanded an urgent discussion.
