At the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championships, Kira van Ryck scored 22 points to hand Canada a 3-1 win over Bulgaria on Friday.
Alexa Gray had 19 points in a 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15 win, which guaranteed that the 2-2 Canadian side would advance to the next round of pool play.
“When we lost points, we weren’t disappointed,” Canada head coach Shannon Winzer said. “We have just fought and I think the attitude and presence on the court has let us down Bulgaria.”
“We had a really good serving match and our block defense really showed today and that’s a huge factor for us,” Canada captain Jane Cross said.
Canada will end their Pool C game against Germany on Saturday. The top four teams in the pool of six teams will advance to the next round starting on Tuesday.
The competition continues till 15 October.
