Lamb's 1st hand touchdown catch takes the Cowboys to victory over the Giants. CBC Sports

CD Lamb was furious with himself after dropping an open pass in the second quarter and costing the Dallas Cowboys a potential touchdown. It was just embarrassing.

The star Cowboys receiver made up for it with the game on the line, making a one-handed TD catch with 8:30 to cap a go-forward drive that gave the Cowboys a stunning 23-16 win over the New Monday night. York Giants.

“He’s CD Lamb,” Dallas quarterback Cooper Rush said after hitting Lamb four times on an 89-yard drive. “The guy is very open. Makes big-time catches. That faded catch was incredible. I’m sure he wants the other one back, but as always made a lot of plays for us.”

Ezekiel Elliott scored on a 1-yard run to return from a seven-point deficit and Brett Maher scored three field goals as the Cowboys (2–1) beat the Giants (2–1) for the 10th time in 11 games and Handed his first defeat to coach Brian Dabol.

“Didn’t quite finish it tonight,” Dabol said. “He did more plays than us. Give him credit.”

Rush threw Lamb for 210 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown, in winning his second straight game filling for injured Dak Prescott (thumb).

Lamb finished with eight catches for 87 yards, but he also dropped a potential 52-yard TD throw. He sidelined after the game and teammates walked in to encourage him.

“It was a situation that I had to deal with on my own, obviously I was the one who dropped the ball for the guys,” Lamb said. “So knowing I had to make it to the back end of the game, I just wanted to step up.”

Lamb actually made three plays at the end of the drive. He caught a 4-yard pass on fourth and -4 from the Giants 41 with 10:27 to go. He added a pass of 26 yards in 1 and then took a 20-13 lead with his brilliant catch on a faded pattern.

Saxon Barkley scored on Weaving’s 36-yard touchdown run to give the Giants a brief 13-6 lead. Graham Gano added three field goals, including a 51-yard run with 3:37, to make it a one-score game.

The Giants got the ball back with 1:45 to play, but the series ended early with an interception by Trayvon Diggs.

The Cowboys overcame the Giants 391–336 in an NFC East rivalry that saw teams run almost as far as they passed. Dallas ran for 176 yards, Toni Pollard had 105 yards and the Cowboys threw for 215. The Giants scored 167 on the ground and 196 in the air.

Dallas allowed only one touchdown in each of their first two games, and that trend continued on Monday night. The defense sacked Daniel Jones five times, with DeMarcus Lawrence taking his career high with three.

Jones finished 20 of 37 for 196 yards and ran nine times for 79 yards. Barkley finished with 81 yards on 14 carries.

Maher scored field goals from 26 and 28 yards by Gano around 42-yard goals to give Dallas a 6–3 halftime lead.

The Cowboys also got a big game on special teams as defensive lineman Dorrance Armstrong blocked a 47-yard field goal attempt by Gano in New York’s opening possession.

The Cowboys’ Lawrence was injured early in the third quarter when he hurt a leg in a play that Jones was dismissed by safety Donovan Wilson. Sterling Shepard suffered a leg injury in New York’s final offensive by the Giants, and Dabol said that initial reports after the game were not good.

The Cowboys returned home to face Washington commanders on Sunday. The Giants completed a three-game homestand on Sunday with a game against the Chicago Bears.
