Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been ruled out for Sunday’s game at the New York Jets.

Tagovailoa, who suffered a concussion last Thursday in Cincinnati after he took a scary sack from Bengals defender Josh Tupo, was pulled off the field and immediately taken to hospital. He flew back to South Florida with the team that night.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday that additional MRI Tagovailoa was cleared on Friday afternoon.

McDaniel said he still does not have time for Tagovailoa’s return, or whether the team will keep him in injured reserve.

“Right now, he’s in the building,” McDaniel said. “He’s had some good days, but he’s trying to go through with proper process and protocol so that he feels 100 percent. I know he’s going to be diligent with it.”

Teddy Bridgewater, who entered Thursday’s game against the Bengals at the end of the first half, will start on Sunday.

The Dolphins also plan to sign quarterback Reid Sinnett to their practice squad as a third quarterback substitute behind Bridgewater and rookie Skyler Thompson.

Sinnett entered the league as a free agent in 2020 and spent time with the Dolphins in 2020 and 2021 before the Eagles claimed him a waiver last October.
