Hamilton golfer Mackenzie Hughes on the verge of achieving top-50 world ranking | CBC Sports

Canada’s Mackenzie Hughes jumped 31 places to be ranked 51st on Monday after winning the Sanderson Farms Championship in the official world golf rankings list.

Hamilton’s Hughes beat Sepp Straka on the second hole of the playoffs to secure his second PGA Tour win of his career on Sunday.

The 31-year-old Canadian’s previous title came in 2016 on Sea Island.

Hughes broke into the top 50 for the first time last November and started the year at a career-high 39th.

Cory Connors of Listowel, Ont., is the highest-ranked Canadian at number 28. Adam Hadwin (No. 86) of Abbotsford, BC, and Taylor Pendrith (No. 99) of Richmond Hill, Ont., are also there. top 100.

Brooke Henderson of Smith’s Falls, Ont., is sixth in the women’s world rankings. She is the only Canadian in the top 100.
