OL Reign’s Canadian connection came through a 3-0 win against the Orlando Pride in Seattle on Saturday night, which saw her team enter the National Women’s Soccer League playoffs as the top team over the Portland Thorns. Winning the 2022 NWSL Shield in the regular season in the process.
Toronto native Quinn already took the ball 1-0 up in midfield in the 24th minute of playing with OL Reigns, passing the ball to Chilliwack, BC, native Jordan Huitema, to a defender, who patiently St. Albert’s overtook Orlando goalkeeper Erin McLeod. Alta., before tucking it in.
Huitema put his last marker for Reigns (11-4-7) in a September 9 draw, the only fault being a 6-0-1 run for the hottest team in the NWSL. They are riding a four-game winning streak after the season.
With the win, OL Reigns overtook Thorns, who played out a 3–3 draw against NJ/NY Gotham FC earlier in the day to claim their first NWSL Shield since 2015.

Reign and the Thorns will both earn byes in the semifinals, while the San Diego Wave, Houston Dash and Kansas City Currents will compete in the quarterfinals on October 15.
The Pride (5-10-7) broke a losing skid in four games with a draw against the San Diego Wave on Sunday, but were unable to move out of 10th place with Saturday’s result.
Huatema helped settle Regan’s opening goal in the eighth minute, finding Megan Rapinoe alone in front as the American football legend scored in his 100th appearance with the team.

Coming into his 10th game since joining the team in July, goals and assists earned Huitema the first multi-point effort of his NWSL career.
Bethany Balser found the back of the net for Reagan in the 31st minute, leveling Rapinoe for the team-leader in scoring seven goals for the season.
